The dawn is here...

Our fears of animals

August 11, 2009

Our attitude toward animals is ambivalent; we fear them and emulate them. They are healers of one time, killers at another time. We favor certain species and detest others.
Why many people would rescue a rabbit crossing a busy hi-way, but would not think twice running over a snake killing it in the process? It appears that our ambivalence towards beast is caused fear, ignorance, and misconceptions of them.
Of the many species of animals, the bat, wolf, ad snake universally evoke fear in people. Humans fear these animals not because of their true nature, but rather because of the imaginary “monsters” associated with them-vampire with bats, werewolves, and the devil with snakes.

Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few wh o find it.
